[Food Rule #1] Have fun with it!
Food Rule #1: Have fun with it!
Who doesn’t love to have fun? Food is meant to be celebrated! It is literally the centerpiece around most social gatherings - as it should be!
No matter who you share your table with, having fun and enjoying your food makes all the difference in creating a lasting lifestyle change! One way we make food fun in our household is by gardening. Food comes from the land in many forms-embrace it, season it and enjoy it. It is so rewarding to finally get to pluck off that juicy produce after the hard work we put into it. Do you have a garden? Let us know below why you find it rewarding!
Let's be honest; how many of us feel we are too busy to meal-plan for the upcoming week? Or are too tired to take that extra step to make our favorite dish healthier? Or, may you just don’t know how to. Eating healthy doesn’t mean “mom is on a diet” - or that you are relegated to salads for eternity. I'll admit, sometimes I want a quick fix, too. Something that helps me push through those pesky feelings is remembering that my body deserves to be nourished to the best of my ability. And I'm not only doing this to better myself, but because of the two little ones that look to me for guidance. Getting everyone in the household involved with preparing a meal can also be fun. Our oldest son loves to run out to the garden to pick out whatever herbs and vegetables we’ll be using that evening for dinner. He also LOVES to shop - and will routinely make is way through the produce section of Trader Joe’s, Kroger and Costco, returning only when his hands and shirt are too full to carry any more. He uses his own kitchen set: real knife (lots of practice with plastic knives for safety), peeler, mixer, etc. so he can be even more involved in helping mom and dad in the kitchen. In fact, he now just starts his own creations to share with the family. If we are home for any length of time - you will find him outside or in the kitchen! We are firm believers in getting your children involved and excited about food at a young age will cultivate a special love and respect for food for the rest of their lives.
We all know that eating food in and of itself is rewarding. The taste is enough to get people excited!
