RoadTrip Snacks Kids LOVE! Paleo & whole food

Road Trip Snacks Kids Love -- Whole Food & Paleo!

Check out our latest “vlog” below with Chef Tristan & Chef Noah showing off ALLLL their favorite snacks!

Who doesn’t love a good roadtrip?! With many people still avoiding airplanes these days, you might be looking at your next getaway via the great American roads! As you might have guessed, fast food joints and happy meals are a no-no for us… but don’t worry, our kiddos LOVE to pick out their favorite healthy snacks!

I’ve compiled a list of our go-to RoadTrip snacks -- and took pictures of them too! With Labor Day right around the corner, we are all stocked up! Of course, I feature mostly Trader Joe’s & Costco Products here.

p.s. while we are primarily whole food-based fam, we do have a few grain/dairy items we show here. But it’s mostly fruit, veg, nuts & seeds!

Active Family Kitchen’s Favorite Road Trip Snacks:

  1. Nut Butter & Apples or Celery -- Grab some organic peanut or almond butter, a travel size container, and some fresh chopped apples or celery stalks! This is usually our first snack of the day, so the produce is fresh…. but hey, if you do not want sticky fingers -- beware!

  2. Dried Fruits -- a great way to mix it up, try a new variety of raisins, dried apricots or figs! We mix these with nuts/seeds to make a sweet and salty snack. Our kiddos could handle dried apricots around age 3, but you can chop them too. Just make sure there is no added sugar or sweetener on the ingredients list.

  3. Nuts & Seeds -- lots of options here! We even feature a roasted chickpea snack here! Almonds, Pecans, Walnuts and Cashews are all fan favorites over here (raw or roasted, just watch the salt/added oil). Pick up some pumpkin seeds to add in the mix -- great sources of fiber and B vitamins!

  4. Chips! No, you won’t find Doritos in our pantry… but some root chips, plantain chips and seaweed snacks -- our kids are alllll about it! Again, just check that ingredient list! Trader Joe’s and Aldi’s are great for quick stops along the way!

  5. Mini Charcuterie Boards -- Not your 1990s lunchable here, but sophisticated combinations of cheeses, meats, nuts, fruits, etc! We have tried a few varieties from places like Target, Aldi’s or Kroger -- our usual stops on road trips. Or you can pick them up ahead of time and make it your first snack of the day!

On your next trip, check out state and local parks to stop along the way for some fresh air and scenery -- take plenty of these snacks for a little picnic! Now, we DO occasionally stop for food along the way…. these are our top choices to find gluten free fare:

  1. Chipotle (in most major cities)

  2. Chic-fil-a -- grilled nuggets & fresh fruits

  3. Local BBQ places
